December Schedule

November 26, 2007

We actually only have two Sunday School classes between now and New Years, believe it or not!

Dec. 2nd — class on the Christmas story from the point of view of Joseph.

Dec. 9th — No Sunday School b/c of Congregational meeting (concerning the assistant pastorship I believe)

Dec. 16th — class on the Christmas story from the point of view of Mary.

Dec 23rd and 30th — no class for the holidays

Extending Invitations

November 21, 2007

This Sunday is the perfect opportunity for all of us to invite those who might be interested in the class to our brunch during the Sunday School hour.  There are two main ways this can happen — first, taking a moment to think of friends who aren’t “plugged in” yet, and second, simply asking those people we see in the service whether they’d like to visit.  [yes, I realize that some of us have the “special talent” of extroverted invitation, but we all do our part).  One of the main reasons this class started was to add an additional layer of community, and we often forget that others are still seeking the sort of connections we’ve already started to build through the class.  A personal invitation does wonders!

Prayer Request

November 20, 2007

Hi all, Matt and I were looking forward to getting back in town on Sunday after Thanksgiving for the Sunday School Brunch.  Unfortunately, we will not make it back because of my grandfather’s passing and the funeral we will attend.  Sadly, he decided to take his own life.  Please lift our family up in prayers as we remember “Pappa”, specifically my father (his only son).  This occurrence also leads me to encourage everyone to consider how we can care for our elderly friends.  Pappa lived by himself, had lost his wife several years ago, and was “tired” of struggling through life…I know he is not the only one in this situation.  Here are a couple of pictures of him from my trip to Louisville in August.

Pictures from Class camping trip

November 18, 2007

OK, with a few last minute cancellations the “class” camping trip might be renamed the Hayes-Wallace camping trip, but nonetheless, pictures are available on our family blog at www.benjaminhayes.com (I got the domain when we only had ONE kid!)

Thanksgiving Week

November 18, 2007

I’ve confirmed that we will meet in the social hall on Nov. 25 for our brunch during the Sunday School hour (see below).  I’ll need a few folks to bring some stuff, i.e. a breakfast casserole, some muffins, etc. so please catch me in the hall or email me, or post a comment here.

Thinking ahead, perhaps we should do some sort of outreach project during December — even singing Christmas carols or something?  I’m open to suggestions!

Lunch on Sunday (Nov.18)

November 14, 2007

Matt and I (Amanda) are planning to attend the Missions Luncheon after the 11:00am service. This would be a great way to share a meal and continue the conversation of what we learn in Sunday School and/or church that day. Consider staying to attend with us. ~M and A Wallace

Schedule for November and December

November 11, 2007

Next Sunday, Nov. 18th, will mark the last lesson on our study of the sacraments.  Thanks to Matt Wallace for leading that unit!

On November 25th, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we will have a potluck and share time during the Sunday School hour.  Hopefully we will be able to meet in the social hall so that we can utliize the kitchen.  I would like for some of us to bring some brunch-style casseroles, etc, and we can eat together and then go around the group to share 1) a favorite Thanksgiving memory or tradition and 2)  something we are particularly thankful for this year.

Then, over the four weeks between then and Christmas, we will be doing a short Christmas unit, to be determined.

Topic Idea – something Christmasy?

November 5, 2007

I was thinking… when we finish this unit on the sacraments in mid November, maybe we should do some sort of mini-unit unit until Christmas with a Christmas theme. I’m still thinking out the details but welcome all suggestions. I also never get enough Christmas carol singing in during the season, so maybe something that incorporates music even…. just thinking “out loud.”

Another topic idea could be a character study for a Bible figure — like the “Life of Moses” or “Life of Mary.”  We could do 1) a Christmasy person like Mary 2) a minor figure who could be finished in the month before Christmas or 3) a major figure whose study would lap over into the New Year.
