Sunday March 30

This Sunday we will be starting our series on Ephesians.  I have broken it down to 8 weeks, which will take us almost to the end of May.  Each week, I will try to post a quick blurb about what we will be discussing and provide the scripture reference.  I would like to encourage everyone to not only try to read all of Ephesians each week to remind us of the big picture, but to read the text we will be looking in particular.  This week will be looking at chapter 1, especially verses 3-14.   Since you’re at your computer already, you can view the passage here: http://bible.oremus.org/?passage=ephesians+1.

No Sunday School Easter Sunday

A quick reminder — however, there will be some social time (with snacks!) for the whole congregation during the Sunday School hour, so especially if you’re new, come out and meet some folks.

Adult Education Committee

The adult education committee met last night, and we had some very productive discussions about how to best promote all of the adult classes here at Blacknall.  Look in the near future for better descriptions on the Blacknall website, possible ongoing announcements in the bulletin, some class highlighting announcements after the service, perhaps a bulletin board, etc etc.  We are going to really try to focus attention on classes over the next couple of months.

During this time, I think it is especially important to 1) be “proactive” in asking people if they are involved in a class and helping them find one if they are interested and 2) make an extra effort not only to come to class each Sunday, but be on time at 10 to greet new faces.

Jihad!

What is it? Does it always mean “war”?  Possible answers to these and other questions as we conclude our comparative study of Islam this Sunday.  There will be no Sunday School for Easter Sunday; I believe all Sunday Schools are cancelled.  The next Sunday, the 30th, will be the first Sunday for our new study of Ephesians.  Matt will be leading.  Hope to see you there!

Daylight Savings…

Believe it or not, it’s this weekend.  So set your clocks ahead an hour (yes, this is the painful “lose an hour”) or else you’ll make it to class just in time for the closing prayer.

Urban Ministries, May 10th?

Miles has tenatively set May 10th as a volunteer date for the class at Urban Ministries here in Durham.  I believe that should be a Saturday morning.  Think about that date so that we can discuss whether to make it a firm commitment.

Adult Education Committee

As the contact person for our class, I’m on the adult education committee.  As a committee we are discussing how to improve classes here at Blacknall, and I would welcome any comments you have, ranging from the types of classes offered, how classes are organized, how classes are promoted, etc.  My email box is always open!
