The first week of the new unit on “Stories of Salvation” went well, with Dave Dunderdale volunteeting to share first. The first half of the class was a brief look at Paul’s salvation story, as told by him to King Agrippa. If you have time and weren’t able to make it to class, you can see it in Act 26.

October 20, 2008Info needed for next unit…
October 14, 2008The next unit in Sunday School, “Stories of Salvation,” will focus on how people from different religious and non-religious backgrounds came to Christianity, and how they describe that experience. Classes will largely consist of having mostly our members – that means you! — sharing about their own experiences, guided by a few recurring questions. Roughly, two people will share each week.
To that end, I’m trying to gauge what backgrounds we have represented in the class. Please take a moment to email me (mrcommodore atsign yahoo dot com) and tell me briefly what your religious background was before coming to Blacknall, especially what church – if any – you were raised in. Don’t worry – replying with this information is NOT an automatic volunteering to share, though I will of course be asking folks and hope all are open to it. After all, this is a great way for us to grow together as a class.
Done with Ruth; on to next unit
October 13, 2008We finshed our 4 week unit on Ruth this past Sunday, and are about to start on our next unit. Thanks to Katie and Matt for teaching the Ruth unit and bringing a lot of background information to the discussion.
The next unit will focus on stories of salvation — how is it that some of us came to know God? How do we express that experience? What vocabulary do we even use – conversion? Being saved? Confirmation? Alter call? You get the idea. I think this will not only be an interesting look into some of the diverse religious and non-religious backgrounds of our members, but also a good chance to just get to know one another better.
P.S. I’m loving the bagels every week!
Fluff and stuff
October 1, 2008First, I am glad that the first weekly bagel-bring went off without a hitch. Thanks to Bob for those! Even more impressive, given the fact that Katie was at the women’s retreat and Bob had both kids solo. I guess I’ll give points to Miles on the same count, though he has half the kids and no bagels
You know, we haven’t done anything as a class socially in a little while, and I thought we should get something together. Of course some of us will see one another at the zoo/birthday party this Saturday. Still maybe we can get something together. Of course I will be glued to my TV for Vandy-Auburn on Saturday night.
P.S. Sorry I’ve been a little slow blogging lately - new job!
