Small but Good

December 21, 2008

As I expected, we had a small group for Sunday School this morning – no doubt many are already on the road for Christmas.  For those of you who missed it, I thought we had a fantastic discussion in our final class on John the Baptist and how he prepared the way for Jesus – and how each of us should prepare the way for others to meet Jesus.  The discussion led naturally and without my prompting to the topic of “Community” within the church or even without.  Of course, that’s our next topic!

Looking forward to starting that unit when Sunday School resumes.  No class on Dec. 28th or Jan 4th.

Merry Christmas!

Class Pictures!

December 14, 2008

I’ve added some pictures of class to the “About CIA” page (see right); hopefully this will give visitors in particular a better sense of the class.

Thanks Angie!

December 10, 2008

A special thanks to Angie Hong for adding some guitar accompaniment to the Christmas carols we sang at the beginning of class on Sunday.  While Angie’s skills may not join us these next two weeks, we will continue to ramp up the Christmas spirit by singing a couple classic carols before getting to the lesson, even if it’s a capella.

I had meant to record a little video excerpt of the singing with my (relatively) new digital camera but forgot; I hope to at least take some pictures or something soon in an attempt to give this blog a little more media pizzaz.

What’s your Favorite Christmas Carol?

December 4, 2008

Vote in my poll!

I see all this traffic to the site but no one ever comments.  So let’s see if I can get participation with a simple poll – you, yes you! merely need to click on your favorite Christmas carol.

This will also help determine which carols we use to kick off class this month!

Advent Devotional

December 1, 2008

Blacknall members have cooperated to create a devotional guide for each day of the advent season.  If you would like to follow it, it can be found at this link:

John the Baptist

December 1, 2008

Did he really eat bugs?  What’s up with the whole live-in-the-wilderness thing?  And what does he have to do with Christmas??  The answers to some or all of these questions as we begin our three-week Christmas unit on this interesting Biblical character.

Also, if you have a favorite Christmas carol that you would like to sing, please let me know.  We will be warming up our Yule-time cheer each class by singing a couple (very informally!)  Incidentally, if you have and can play a guitar and would be willing to be our instrumental accompaniment, let me know.  Otherwise we’ll go a capella, or may be able to use a keyboard.
